The Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs are seemingly locked together recently. As two of the top teams in the AFC with young star quarterbacks, both teams have been compared to one another over the last two years. It’s something that’s getting on Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson’s nerves, however.

On Bleacher Report’s “Take It There” show, Jackson said the constant comparisons between him and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is “annoying.” Though he acknowledged the comparisons will likely never end, he made it a point to say the only thing they have in common is that they play football for a living. However, there’s a little more to the comparisons than their office being a football field.

Both Baltimore and Kansas City are at the top of the AFC and expected to fight this season to represent the conference in Super Bowl LV. The Chiefs are fresh off winning Super Bowl LIV last season, doing so in Mahomes’ third season, a year after he won the MVP award. Jackson is entering his third season in the league and just won the MVP award last season. Mahomes and Jackson are two of the top mobile quarterbacks in the league, rushing a combined 288 times for 2,107 yards and 17 touchdowns between them last season.

With so many things in common, it’s pretty easy to see why the two teams and quarterbacks are inevitably being compared and linked to one another. And if Jackson and the Ravens reach their goal of winning Super Bowl LV, it’ll only further add to the reasons to compare them.

Jackson said they’re different players and on many levels, that’s accurate. But until one quarterback leaves the conference or a team falls off, the comparisons are seemingly going to continue.
