Harrison Ford is a veteran actor, and in his long-running career, he was not limited to only one genre of film. However, when Ford paired up to work alongside the James Bond actor Daniel Craig in a Western film, he lost his cool working in Cowboy & Aliens. Harrison Ford Questioned His Decision To Work in Cowboy & Aliens

The 2011 sci-fi film was directed by Jon Favreau, who had directed Marvel’s Iron Man. The film is set in the late 19th century, where a mysterious cowboy named Jake Lonergan (Daniel Craig), and heads to a town ruled by the ruthless Colonel Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford). Craig’s character had no recollection of his past and he was trying to find out his identity. However, trouble brewed as alien spacecraft invaded the town and abducted several people.

The experimental film recruited two of the biggest names of Hollywood but Ford was not quite convinced with the script of the film. During an exclusive interview, the 42 actor confessed that he nearly threw away the script of the film after reading the first few pages of the script.

“Well I read 30 pages and then I threw it across the room and I called my agent and I said, ‘I don’t get it. There’s nothing in this for me.’ ’Why are you asking me to do this?’”

Ford continued that his agent convinced him to continue with the film because he does not understand what the new generation want in a film.

“’Have a little faith, this is the way of the world now. You’re an older person, maybe you don’t understand how things work. Read the rest of the script.’ So I read the rest of the script, and I said, ‘I don’t get it!’ So I said, ‘Why don’t I go and see Jon Favreau?'”

The Star Wars actor added his idea of approaching sci-fi films, and though his agent convinced him to read the rest of the script of the film, he met with Favreau to understand his vision of the film.

“I thought this was clearly something I haven’t done before and one of the things to do at this stage is something you haven’t done before. As much as I have been part of sci-fi movies, I always approach them as fairytales. I didn’t really think of the sci-fi.”

Harrison Ford’s doubt about the movie was true because upon release was neither a success commercially nor a critical success. The movie tanked at the box office as it earned only $176 million worldwide, despite having a budget of $163 million.

During an interview, Harrison Ford stated that he had a plethora of questions when he first saw the outfit.

“It was presented to me as an aspect of character in the first film. My questions about it were many. Why am I wearing a leather jacket in the jungle? Isn’t it hot here? Why am I carrying a whip? What am I going to do with a f*cking whip? I’m going to whip people? Oh, okay. And the hat…[They said] ‘It’s an evocation of a time. A period. A reflection of movies past.’ I said okay, and that makes it my own.”

Although it was not love at first sight, once convinced Ford rocked the Indiana Jones outfit. Needless to say, he nailed the role, making the whip and the fedora synonymous with his character.
